Volkswagen's first battery factory in Europe starts production in 2025
Recently, foreign media reported that the Volkswagen Group’s battery factory in Europe has officially broken ground and is expected to be put into production in 2025. It will have a production capacity of 40GWh and can provide batteries for about 500,000 vehicles. It is worth mentioning that it is also Volkswagen's first battery factory in Europe and the United States, which will be operated by PowerCo, a battery manufacturing subsidiary established by the Volkswagen Group in January.
It is reported that by 2030, the Volkswagen Group plans to operate six battery factories in Europe with partners, with a cumulative production capacity of 240GWh. In addition to Europe, the automaker is exploring the possibility of further gigafactories in North America.
