What to do if there is abnormal noise on the rear axle of electric tricycle?

Date:2024-09-07 Author:XINDA MOTOR

Fault diagnosis and troubleshooting of abnormal noise on the rear axle of an electric tricycle:

When the car starts or changes speed suddenly, there will be a metallic collision sound, and there will be a slight vibration at the rear of the car body when turning. This means that the fixing bolts or rivets of the differential case have been seriously loosened and the car should be stopped immediately and tightened.

If there is an abnormal noise when turning, but it disappears when driving straight, it means that the planetary gear teeth are damaged or the planetary gear support washer is too thick, or the planetary gear and the axle gear do not match. The planetary gear should be repaired and the support washer or axle gear should be replaced.

A "buzzing" sound is heard inside the working axle housing of the tricycle, and the sound becomes more severe when the load increases. This indicates that the differential gear tooth side clearance is too large or too small and should be adjusted.

If there is an abnormal noise when driving in gear, and it weakens or disappears when coasting, you should judge according to the specific situation. If there is an abnormal noise when going uphill, it means that the gear meshing position is biased towards the root of the tooth; if there is an abnormal noise when breaking down, it means that the gear meshing position is biased towards the top of the tooth, and the gear meshing position should be adjusted.

If there is a sudden loud noise in the rear axle housing while driving, it can be considered that the gear is broken and the gear pair should be replaced immediately.

If the tricycle makes a noise when starting, or makes a noise at the rear of the vehicle when going uphill, shifting gears, or changing speed suddenly, it means that the meshing clearance between the conical and cylindrical master and slave gears, planetary gears, and axle gears and axle shafts is too large. When the axle shaft bearings are worn, they should be replaced.

If there is an abnormal rumbling sound from the rear axle and the rear axle is felt to vibrate, it is caused by the bending deformation of the half-axle.

If you find a noise coming from the rear axle while driving, you can stop the car, raise one side of the rear axle, use a colored pen to make a mark on the tire and the drive shaft, then shift the gear, run the engine at the lowest stable speed, and listen to the number of noises it makes within a certain period of time. If the number of noises is slightly more than 1.5 times the wheel speed, it may be that the cone driven gear is swinging, and the reason may be that the cone driven gear is jumping or faulty.

Another problem you may encounter: oil leakage from the rear axle

The main manifestation of rear axle oil leakage is obvious oil stains or dripping at the joints of the axle housing and the bearing seat. The reasons and troubleshooting methods are as follows:

1. Lubricating oil leaks outward from the half-axle oil seal. This may be due to aging of the oil seal seat, loose wear, improper assembly, or the machining accuracy of the oil seal joint surface does not meet the requirements, resulting in increased wear clearance between the oil seal and the journal, or grooves on the surface, which may cause leakage. If it is the above reasons, the oil seal should be replaced and reassembled, or the journal should be repaired.

2. If oil leaks from the differential case and bearing seat, the bolts between the differential case and the bearing seat are loose or the case has cracks. The solution is to tighten the bolts and repair the cracks.

3. When the amount of oil added exceeds the specified interface, the oil will overflow automatically.

4. The vent hole is blocked, causing the pressure inside the bridge to increase, and oil will seep out from the joint surface and oil seal.
