Points of concern to prevent motor burnout

Date:2023-10-26 Author:XINDA MOTOR
There are many ways for motors to burn out, some due to mechanical problems, some due to thermal relay problems, and some due to phase loss.

During use, if the spinning motor burns down, the following aspects should be paid attention to.

Keep your motor clean

When the motor is running, there must be no dust, water stains or debris within 3 meters of the air inlet. Otherwise, once it is sucked into the motor, it will form a short-circuit medium or damage the insulation layer of the wire, causing an inter-turn short circuit and burning the motor Therefore, to ensure the safe operation of the motor, it is necessary to keep the motor and its surrounding environment clean so that the motor can maintain a safe and stable working condition during long-term operation.

Ensure that the boot device is working properly

Generally speaking, the quality of the starting equipment determines whether the motor can start normally. According to past experience, most burned motors are caused by abnormal starting equipment, such as phase loss in the starting equipment, contactor contacts arcing, sparking, etc. So how do you maintain your startup equipment? Mainly cleaning and tightening. For example, if the contactor contacts are not clean, the contact resistance will increase, causing the maintenance network to heat up and burn the contacts, thereby burning the motor. Therefore, always pay attention to the cleaning and tightening of starting equipment. The electrical control cabinet should be located in a dry, ventilated and easy-to-operate location, and dust should be removed regularly.

Ensure that the motor works at rated current

The main reason for the overload operation of the motor is that the driven load is too large, the voltage is low, or the driven machinery is stuck. If the overload time is too long, the motor will absorb a large amount of active power from the power grid, the current will increase rapidly, and the temperature will also rise, which can easily cause the motor to burn out. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure that the motor often works at the rated current, and also pay attention to checking the operation of the transmission device, the concentricity of the coupling and gear transmission, etc.

Observe the motor for vibration, noise and abnormal smell

If the motor vibrates, the non-concentricity of the load part connected to it will also become higher, increasing the motor load, and overload operation will burn the motor. Noise and odor are precursors to motor failure and must be paid attention to at all times. Therefore, when the motor is running, especially the high-power repaired motor, it is necessary to check frequently to see if the motor end cover, anchor bolts, bearing glands, etc. are loose. Once problems are found, they must be solved in time.

Pay attention to check the temperature of the motor

Staff should frequently check the temperature of the bearings, stator, shell and other parts of the motor. Especially for motors without voltage, current and frequency monitoring and without overload protection, they should pay more attention to monitoring the temperature rise. If the temperature rise is found to be too high, they should immediately report it. Shut down for inspection. In addition, the rolling elements, raceway surfaces, bearing clearances, etc. of the bearings need to be checked regularly. If any abnormality occurs, the bearings must be replaced before operation.
