Hall Angle of Three-Phase Brushless DC Motor

Date:2024-10-31 Author:XINDA MOTOR

There are two types of brushless motors: inductive and non-inductive. Inductive means that the motor is equipped with a Hall sensor. The Hall element can provide position illusion for the brushless DC motor, allowing the three-phase brushless motor to keep the coil energized. At the same time, the magnetic lines of force passing through the magnet will generate signals, which are PWM speed regulation signals. After receiving these signals, the controller can control the rotation of the motor and realize the speed regulation function. At the same time, the Hall can also output position signals, which are what we call FG signals. The controller determines the movement position of the motor by reading these signals.

Because the three Hall sensors of the motor are generally evenly distributed, the electrical angles are 120° and 60°. This is determined by the position of the Hall sensors. If all three Hall sensors are placed in the right position, the angle will be 60°. If they are placed in the middle position, the angle will be 120°. This will affect the commutation of the motor current. When the motor rotor rotates the corresponding angle, the direction will be automatically commutated.

Hall also has positive and negative poles. If the Hall is connected incorrectly, it will cause the winding to be unable to conduct and the motor will not operate normally. More seriously, if the conduction is incorrect, it will cause a short circuit and burn out the driver, and the motor will be useless.

The following are some of the brushless DC motor slot pole numbers and corresponding Hall angles we have summarized. Of course, the most common ones are 120° and 60°; we generally recommend this solution for easy coordination with the product's main control circuit.
