DC motor speed regulation method

With the continuous development of industrial technology, DC motor, as a common electric motor, is widely used in various fields.

To enable the DC motor to realize the speed regulation function, different speed regulation methods need to be adopted.

This article will introduce several common DC motor speed control methods and analyze their principles and characteristics.

1. Voltage speed regulation

Voltage speed regulation is one of the most common DC motor speed regulation methods.

This speed regulation method achieves speed regulation by changing the power supply voltage of the DC motor.

When the voltage of the motor increases, the speed of the motor will also increase accordingly; conversely, when the voltage decreases, the speed of the motor will also decrease.

This is because the motor's torque is directly proportional to the voltage.

The advantages of voltage speed regulation are wide speed regulation range, simple operation and low cost.

However, since the torque of a DC motor is proportional to the voltage, when running at low speed, the torque is small and it is prone to difficulty in starting.

2. Resistor speed regulation

Resistor speed regulation is a method of speed regulation by connecting a resistor in series with the motor circuit.

By changing the resistance of the resistor, the torque and speed of the motor can be changed.

When the resistance increases, the motor's speed will decrease; conversely, when the resistance decreases, the motor's speed will increase.

The advantages of resistor speed regulation are simple structure and low cost.

However, resistors are less efficient because they consume a lot of electrical energy.

In addition, resistor speed regulation is rarely used in high-power motors and is mainly used in low-power DC motors.

3. Magnetic field speed regulation

Magnetic field speed regulation is a way to achieve speed regulation by changing the magnetic field strength of the motor.

The speed of a DC motor is directly proportional to the armature current and field current.

Therefore, by adjusting the excitation current, the speed of the motor can be changed.

The advantages of magnetic field speed regulation are wide speed range and good speed regulation performance.

In addition, magnetic field speed regulation can also achieve rapid starting and braking, making the motor control more flexible.

However, the disadvantage of magnetic field speed regulation is that it requires additional control circuits and equipment, which is costly.

4. Armature speed regulation

Armature speed regulation is a method of achieving speed regulation by changing the armature voltage or current of the motor.

By changing the armature voltage or current, the speed of the motor can be changed.

The advantages of armature speed regulation are wide speed regulation range and good speed regulation performance.

In addition, armature speed regulation enables fast starting and braking.

However, since armature speed regulation requires additional control circuits and equipment, the cost is higher.

To sum up, the speed regulation methods of DC motors mainly include voltage speed regulation, resistance speed regulation, magnetic field speed regulation and armature speed regulation.

Each speed regulation method has its characteristics and scope of application.

When selecting a speed regulation method, comprehensive considerations need to be made based on specific application requirements and economic conditions.

At the same time, with the continuous advancement of science and technology, more new speed regulation methods will appear to meet the needs of DC motor speed regulation in different fields.
